Raichur district administration (Karnataka) has agreed to release water from the Ganekal balancing reservoir to save crops in the tail-end regions of the Tungabhadra Left Bank canal. This decision was taken at the Deputy Commissioner's office after a prolonged discussion was held with farmers from the tail-end areas on Thursday night. Deputy Commissioner G N Nayak had on Tuesday promised farmers that six ft of water from the balancing reservoir would be released through the distributaries 102 and 102A. He had categorically stated that nothing more could be done.
