Rain claims 22, lives in Andhra, scores homeless

At least 22 people died and thousands were rendered homeless as incessant heavy rain lashed the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh under the influence of the passing cyclonic storm ‘Nilam’. The weather department has issued a warning that till the morning of November 6 moderate to heavy rainfall would continue in the coastal areas. Several trains were cancelled or diverted due to flooded tracks in Vizag, Vizianagaram, East and West Godavari and Krishna districts. Traffic came to a standstill on all roads including the national highways. The government has opened 86 relief camps in East and West Godavari, Krishna, Vizag and Guntur districts where more than 70,000 people have taken shelter, Commissioner of Disaster Management T Radha said.
