Rain water harvesting: Now, work has to start

  • 23/02/2004

With summer approaching fast, need to save water is of top priority. It is strange Bangalore city's denizens allow thousands of gallons of rainwater to flow down storm-water drains every year. If this is harvested, experts say, it would save the city from drinking water crisis. This water can also be used for gardening and non-potable purposes. For the city with nearly 50 lakh population, rain water harvesting has captured the imagination of very few denizens, that too, mostly of those with sloping rooftops. But at least now, Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) has woken up to its potential. It has come up with a proposal to sanction building plans only if the owners included rainwater harvesting.
