The deep depression over Bay of Bengal, which moved westwards on Sunday, was lying about 500 km south-south-east of Paradip. The India Meteorological Department said the system would move slowly in a west-south-west direction towards South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu coast and weaken gradually during the next 48 hours.
Under its impact, rain or thundershowers may occur at a few places over coastal Odisha and some places over interior Odisha during the next 24 hours. However, no warning was issued by the weather office.
The IMD, however, hoisted distant cautionary signal number 1 at Paradip and Gopalpur ports. It forecast strong and gusty surface wind reaching a speed of 45 to 55 km per hour from northeasterly along and off the Odisha Coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
