Rajasthan guarantees most services within days

Gehlot launches Guaranteed Delivery of Public Services Act, 2011 The Rajasthan Government on Monday launched its ambitious guaranteed delivery of public services as the day coincided with the 122{+n}{+d}birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot attended two major functions, one in Ajmer and the other in Jaipur, to mark the launch. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gehlot sought public cooperation in implementation of the programme along with that of the elected representatives, officers and staff. “People's support is a prerequisite for good governance. The political parties also should cooperate in areas of public interest like this one,” he said addressing the gathering at Ramlila ground in Jaipur. Ever since his government came to power, its effort had been to provide a transparent, sensitive and responsive administration to the people of the State, he said. The Rajasthan Guaranteed Delivery of Public Services Act, 2011, enacted in the recent session of the Assembly, guarantees the delivery of 108 services in 53 areas concerning 15 departments. The time period kept for the delivery of services ranges from one day in the case of removal of animal carcasses from public places to two days for driving licences, 75 days for land use conversion and a maximum of 90 days for sanction of old age pension. Issue of birth/death certificates has been promised in 7-15 days and new ration card in seven days. Mr. Gehlot said the State had pioneered much people-oriented legislation in the past such as the Right to Information and Right to Food and would come out with Right to Shelter and Right for Hearing soon. The previous Congress Government in Rajasthan had also initiated the declaration of Citizens' Charter, guaranteeing timely services by a selected number of departments while the Centre is going to release a Citizens' Charter in the next Budget, he added. Strongly advocating a Right to Shelter legislation at the Central level, Mr. Gehlot said Rajasthan has initiated a scheme for construction of 10 lakh houses for poor families in the next three years. An amount of Rs.3,400 crores has been taken as loan by the State Government to carry out the project, he said. Each beneficiary family would be provided an additional Rs.4,400 for construction of a latrine, he informed. The function in Jaipur was also addressed by Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal, Pradesh Congress chief Chandra Bhan, Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi and MLA Pratapsingh Kachariawas.
