Rajasthan not taking proper steps on Tribal Act: Brinda

JAIPUR: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat has accused the Rajasthan Government of not taking proper steps for implementation of the Tribal Rights Act, 2006. The State Government and the divisional administration in the tribal-dominated Udaipur division were taking a negative stand on the Act and have resorted to repression of Adivasis seeking regularisation of their land rights in the forest areas, she said. Ms. Karat, who addressed a gathering of tribals in Kotra tehsil of Udaipur district on Wednesday, said the had even issued a misleading circular saying that the cut-off year for eligibility given in the Act -- the Scheduled Tribes and other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 -- was 1980 instead of 2005,she charged.
