After successful completion of work to reduce power transmission and distribution losses to 20 per cent in the rural areas, the Rajasthan Government's Energy Department on Tuesday set a new target for bringing down the losses to 10 per cent or below at all divisional headquarters across the State. State Energy Secretary and Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, Shrimat Pandey, laid down the ambitious target as part of the ongoing feeder renovation programme at a video-conference with the district officials. Mr. Pandey was apprised of the steps being taken to improve electric supply in various regions and told that the T&D losses were the lowest at 12.21 per cent in Jaipur but ranged between 20 per cent and 35 per cent at the divisional headquarters of Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Kota, Bharatpur and Udaipur. The Chairman of the three public sector power distribution companies, R. G. Gupta, participating in the video-conference suggested that a road-map be prepared on the lines of the work in Jaipur to bring down the T&D losses to less than 10 per cent at the divisional headquarters. Work is in progress in Jaipur to further reduce the losses to 8 per cent. Mr. Pandey, issuing instructions to the district officials, said the underground power supply cables should be laid before the establishment of new residential colonies in the cities to avoid inconvenience in future, while the work for releasing agricultural and domestic power connections in the villages should be speeded up. The Energy Secretary said all the pending work such as installation of transformers under the feeder renovation programme would be completed by this coming June 30, while emphasis would be laid on resolving the grievances of consumers of all categories. Mr. Gupta also suggested that T&D losses could be reduced considerably by installing separate transformers for agricultural connections in the urban areas.
