On her first trip to Udaipur since being sworn in as chief minister, Vasundhara Raje on Thursday lashed out at the previous government for pushing the state backward in terms of development. “Since Independence, Rajasthan had been under the governance of a single party for most of the time whose policies inflicted upon it the tag of a sick state. During our first term, we met partial success in bringing about some progress here but for the past five years of the Congress rule, the state fell back even more,” Vasundhara Raje said on Thursday. The chief minister, who laid the foundation stone of Rajasthan Mega Housing Project at Bedwas here said the government does not have a magic stick to cure all the maladies in asingle day that has been paining the people since years. “But we will not create hurdles for any project launched by the erstwhile government,” she said. “However, we will make sure that the discrepancies in such projects are dispelled,” she said. The privileged are benefitting from various projects meant for the deprived sections which the government will not allow under any circumstances, she added. Mentioning ‘Sarkar Apke Dwar’ programme started in Bharatpur recently, Raje said the event has given the government a better platform to reach out to the common people. “Such initiatives will be held in remaining divisions too and hence officials should begin their exercise to ensure proper functioning of their respective departments so that least possible number of complaints remain to be addressed,” she said. On the basis of the overall performances of the departments and least grievances, a selection of the best division will be made, Raje said. Prior to the programme, the chief minister also dedicated the Vibhuti Park at Fatehsagar Lake for the public. She inspected the flower show organized at the lakeside by the district administration a day ago. Collector Ashutosh Pednekar gave a brief note of the works done under the National Lake Conservation Project worth Rs 20 crore for the preservation of water bodies. Applauding the administration’s efforts on beautification of the city particularly the lakes, Raje said: “The credit for keeping the city clean goes to the public, but I will make a surprise visit to check whether the cleanliness seen here is a day’s effort merely to impress.” She also said that collectors from other districts will be asked to pay a visit to Udaipur to take a cue on keeping their cities clean. Raje also unveiled Swami Vivekananda’s statute at lake side here. She also heard grievances at the railway stadium here before leaving for Jaipur.
