JNNURM targets incorporated in Municipal Bill Speedy execution arranged at all levels: Ms. Raje
JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has reiterated her government's commitment to complete all projects sanctioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the State on schedule.
In a letter to Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, Ms. Raje said the State government had utilised Rs.158.73 crore of the Rs.275.24 crore sanctioned by the Centre for 10 projects during 2008-09. The expenditure constitutes 58 per cent of the sanctioned amount.
Of the 10 projects, six pertain to development works in the Walled City in Jaipur, drinking water supply from Bisalpur dam to Jaipur and Ajmer and Bus Rapid Transit System Package-I in Jaipur, on which 80 per cent of the money was spent. Ms. Raje said three of these projects would be completed by December this year.
Ms. Raje pointed out that the State government, showing its commitment to implement urban reforms, had incorporated the JNNURM targets in the new Municipal Council Bill. "The State, which has already bagged the second prize for these works, has asked the Union Urban Development Ministry to complete the reforms by this financial year-end.'
She said the State government had initiated the process for establishing a Project Management Unit to evolve a favourable atmosphere for human resource development in the urban local bodies, while independent review and monitoring agencies had already been appointed and the project implementation units established in Jaipur and Ajmer.
Ms. Raje said all the projects under the JNNURM were "very significant' for evolving Rajasthan as a developed State and added that strict monitoring for ensuring their speedy and time-bound execution had been arranged at all levels.
