CPI South Goa candidate, Raju Mangueshkar has demanded that 25 per cent of the foreign exchange earned by the Central government from Goan iron ore export should be exclusively spent on the development of areas badly hit by mining activities.
Addressing a press conference, Mangueshkar said that mining should not be at the cost of the locals depriving them of social, human and decent living conditions.
He, however, emphasised that the mining industry is very important for Goa since the industry provides job opportunities to the Goans, but opposed all forms of illegal mining by destroying agricultural land and polluting drinking water resources.
He also castigated the government for not protecting the people
