The Hyderabad-based Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd is talking to FIs for part-funding a hazardous waste treatment plant in West Bengal. The Rs 150-crore hazardous waste treatment project, which is to be located in Haldia, will treat the entire waste generated by industrial units in the State. The total volume of hazardous waste generation by 465 units amounts 0.22 million tonne per year, as per an inventory prepared by the WBPCB. Of these, 80 units have built up on-site engineered facilities for treating and storing these wastes. However, the WBPCB Member-Secretary, Mr RaviKant, feared that much of the remaining waste finds its way into our vegetable!
