After a gap of more than 30 years, a rare fish species of silverbelly, Leiognathus smithursti, was discovered off the coast of the Indian coast. During their routine field operations, scientists of Central Marine Fishery Research Institute (CMFRI) discovered one maturing female specimen of the species from the trawl catches off Kakinada coast recently.
