Redefine forest, timber regulatory bodies urged

Malaysia has called for international timber regulatory bodies to redefine the term "forest" to include oil palm and rubber plantations. Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the current definition was unfair and discriminatory towards developing countries. "The definition of forest should be more comprehensive and should include land covered with tree species besides forest species and to include monocultural areas such as oil palm and rubber plantations.
