While children activists have been expressing concern over the rampant child labour menace in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has been able to detect only 24 children in hazardous and four in non-hazardous occupations in 18 months for the period between April 2004 to May 2005. Taking cognisance of this dismal performance, National Human Rights Commission in its report has dismissed the government's claims of doing enough to tackle the problem seriously.
