MARGAO, JUNE 30 - Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has moved the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao for a permanent order against dumping of garbage and waste at the Sonsodo dumpyard. The MLA has filed a petition in the Court of the Sub-divisional Magistrate, praying that for a stop to garbage dumping by the mmc. In his petition, he drew attention of the Court that the Sonsodo dump yard has turned out a nuisance to people residing in and around the dump yard with the Civic body failing to treat the waste in a scientific manner and under the Garbage management rules. He apprehended that the situation if allowed to continue would develop into epidemic proportions, posing a hazard to life of the people staying in the locality. Lourenco pointed out that plastic waste dumped in the dump yard lie scattered along the Curtorim road, posing nuisance to the passers-bye. Meanwhile, Lourenco told Herald that he has also lodged a complaint with the Goa Pollution Control Board for the closure of the Sonsodo dumpyard. He has disclosed plans to filed a complaint with the police too against dumping of garbage at Sonsoso. MMC chief, Johnson Fernandes,said the body has received a copy of Lourenco's petition and the Civic officials are taking stock of the situation.
