The State government by deciding to provide electricity to farmers and power loom industry at low rates has tried to give them some relief. In a meeting of cabinet which was presided over by Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan the decision was taken that the domestic consumers using electricity up to 30 units monthly would be charged Rs 1.75 per unit in place of revised rates. The powerloom consumers having load up to 25 horse power would be provided electricity at Rs 2 per unit in place of revised rates. Low Tension agriculture consumers would also be provided electricity at low rates. Consumers having permanent connections would be charged 75 paise per unit whose monthly consumption is up to 500 units per month and for the above units Rs 1.10 per unit charges would be imposed. Similarly, temporary connection holders of Low Tension consumers would have to pay Rs 1.60 per unit and DTR meter holders would have to pay 75 paise per unit. State government would provide grant of Rs 1187 crore for this arrangement. The government has decided to give exemption from minimum annual surcharge to the High Tension irrigation consumers. This decision of the government is commendable and farmers and powerloom consumers stand to benefit. Domestic consumers of 30 units would also get its benefit and feel relief. The government has tried its best to lessen the burden of farmers that they can feel relief on expenses of electricity. The farmers face problems during the period of irrigation due to shortage of power. As election year is ahead so in this time the relief given to the farmers is a good and commendable decision.
