Remains of a 280 million-year-old forest once teeming with towering trees, that are now extinct, have been unearthed by geologists in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. The 'Gondwana forest' lay buried under layers of red soil, which now bears a charming green stretch of sal and piyal trees.
