In a classic indictment, an inquiry report submitted to the Lokayukta has found senior bureaucrats guilty of breaking the law by cutting trees, among other things. The inquiry was conducted following a petition filed by IPS officer Y.P Singh contending that the Pataliputrs cooperative housing society at Andheri West (Mumabi) was constructed on a 5667 sq metre plot of land covered with trees. He had contended that the permission of the Tree Authority was not taken for cutting the trees which were felled overnight in 1999.
