At a time when the Mumbai city should be addressing a problem of depleting greenery, the BMC's Tree Authority has granted permission to Piramal Holdings Limited to fell a peepal tree that is more than 70 years old, to make way for a car park proposed to be built at Haji Ali. Irked by the decision -since the tree is located in a remote corner of the plot and is not an obstruction- the proposed building's neighbours, residents of Gold Coin Co-operative Housing Society, held an impromptu protest at the site.
