Rise in malaria cases in Kasaragod

A rise in malaria cases has been reported in the district with most cases being found among migrant labourers and those frequenting other States.
Confirming the presence of anopheles mosquitoes that transmit malaria virus, District Medical Officer P. Gopinathan said cases were being reported from Kasaragod, Kanhangad and Neeleswaram municipalities besides Kumbala, Mangalpadi and Ajanoor panchayats.
While six confirmed cases were reported from Neeleswaram municipality, 14 were reported from Kanhangad and eight from Kasaragod. As many as 10 cases were reported from Kumbala, while Mangalpadi and Ajanoor had six confirmed cases each.
A total of 109 unconfirmed malaria cases were also reported from the district. However, the number of dengue and rat fever cases reported in the district showed a decline compared to the figures the previous year.
Fifteen confirmed cases of dengue and one rat fever case have been reported from the district so far.
The dengue cases were reported from West Eleri, East Eleri, Kumbala and Balal localities.
