River front uplift MoU on 9 July

KOLKATA, 5 JULY: The Rail India Technical & Economic Services (Rites), a Union government undertaking, will sign an MoU with Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) and KMC on 9 July for beautification of the Hooghly river front, said Miss Mamata Banerjee, railway minister. KoPT will set up a new port at Sagar and rail connectivity with Haldia port and Sagar port will be established, Miss Banerjee said. She held a meeting today at her Kalighat residence with Mayor Mr Sovan Chatterjee, Mr Mukul Roy, MoS Shipping, Mr Sudip Bandopadhyay, chief whip Trinamul Congress Parliamentary Party and the chairman and the deputy chairman of KoPT to discuss the issue. Miss Banerjee said: "We cannot sit idle waiting for the Left Front's defeat, so we have started our work. We are preparing a plan for beautification of the river front.
