River Krishna flows in reverse direction to help Maharashtra

Can a river flow in the reverse direction all of a sudden? The mighty Krishna river, the lifeline of North Karnataka, has now started flowing from a lower riparian state, Karnataka, to the upper riparian state, Maharashtra.
It has, however, avoided another lower riparian state Andhra Pradesh. It may sound strange. But it seems the river has been flowing according to the tunes of Congress politics. Karnataka was taken by surprise when water from Narayanapur reservoir of the Upper Krishna Project was redirected to Maharashtra in a clandestine manner. This was done by breaching the main Indi Branch Canal (IBC) on Jan 3 to quench the thirst of people in Solapur city and other parts of Maharashtra. What was amazing was that there was not even a formal request from the Maharashtra Government seeking Krishna waters.
