Riverfront displaced get houses

Ahmedabad: The slumdwellers, displaced due to the Sabarmati riverfront project, were allotted houses under economically weaker section (EWS) scheme in the city on Monday. In the first draw, 2,371 houses were allocated under the rehabilitation scheme, out of which 271 slum-dwellers living on the eastern bank, on the stretch between Subhash bridge-Dudheshwar bridge, were given new EWS houses. The process was conducted by SRDFCL and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and funded under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. The cost of one EWS house is Rs 2.25 lakh, out of which Rs 66,900 have to paid by the beneficiary. The first instalment of Rs 6,900 was paid by the slum-dwellers and the rest of the amount would be paid through bank loan over 10 years.
