Rains have receded in the last two days but they got momentum from Thursday. The storm water drains overflowed, and consequently, houses in low lying areas were inundated. As the intensity of rains has increased in Malnad, the water-level in Cauvery has also gone up. Though the entry of monsoon was a little late this time, it rained cats and dogs once it commenced. Cauvery has regained her original splendour. Rains gave small break in the morning hours on Thursday, but there was a heavy downpour in the afternoon, disrupting routine activities.
Low lying areas in Nellihudikeri, Dubare, Rangasamudra, Guddehosur, Madapattana, Kanive, Hebbale, Torenur, Manajur, Shirangala have been submerged in water.
Since Cauvery is flowing above the danger-level, tribal members in Dubare forest found it difficult to cross the river. The private agencies carrying out river rafting in Dubare helped the tribals to cross Cauvery by providing them boats.
Tribal leader J P Raju has appealed the district administration for mechanised boats to assist the members to reach Dubare island during rainy season.
Inflow of water into the major reservoirs of the district like Harangi and Chiklihole has increased. If the rains continue in the same intensity, they will be full by the end of this week, according to experts.
