While Dhanushkoti on the Tamil Nadu coast vanished from the landscape sometime ago, a sacred spot by the same name in the famous temple town of Melkote in Mandya district of Karnataka may meet a similar fate if contractors have their way. The site is tucked inside forests at a distance from the Sanskrit Academy. Devotees visiting the temple make it a point to visit the spot as well as the massive rock opposite it. Dhanushkoti now faces the threat of being erased as a road is being laid to Melkote. The road, which branches off from the Tonnur-Melkote main road, passes through a eucalyptus plantation of the Forest Department and is poised to pass through Dhanushkoti.
