Central Chronicle (Bhopal)
Hardly has the monsoon commenced and the roads have started to tear apart. As per recent information, the newly constructed road from Bhopal to Raisen has started deteriorating and the gravel and other materials used in its construction has come on the side of the road. The same fate is of Chhindwara-Seoni road. In the State capital and nearby areas also, the recent rains have resulted in damage to roads. All this proves that the quality aspect was not taken care of during construction of the roads. Whereas the Public Works Department minister had commented before the monsoons that the roads be built in such a manner that they withstand the rains. The minister himself had inspected the roads. The disintegration of tar due to rains shows that there was carelessness in construction of the roads. By the time the rains are over the condition of the roads in the state could well be imagined. The government should take the opinion of experts and study the situation sincerely. The city of late is witness to construction of cement concrete roads. During construction of roads in MP Nagar area there has not been proper provision for drainage of storm water. This aspect should be looked into in future road constructions. Also, what causes the disintegration of coal tar needs to be known. If the problems arising during rainy season are taken into account while constructing roads, then probably the life of the roads may be prolonged. In absence of good roads the people, especially the two-wheeler riders have to face lot of inconvenience. The government may also study the roads in other countries and implement the necessary changes in their construction here. After all the tax-payers money should not go a waste.
