Rourkela boils at 46.2 degree

ROURKELA: Intense heat wave condition continues to grip Rourkela with the temperature being recorded at 46.2 degree Celsius today. Six days after heavy rain cooled down mercury to as low as 34.6, the Steel City has seen a phenomenal rise of nearly 12 degree. The upward spur in mercury has virtually thrown normal life out of gear. Heavy rain on last Wednesday night and Thursday morning plummeted maximum temperature by nearly seven degree, but mercury jumped up by 4.6 degree the next day. However, the district headquarters town of Sundargarh was little cool at 44 today, though in past six days mercury rose by six degrees. Sundargarh town on Saturday received moderate rainfall of 10 mm but the temperature by Monday shoot up by five points at 43. Meanwhile, the death toll due to sunstroke has officially gone up to eight while nine other deaths were attributed to other reasons.
