Rs 100 cr/km sunk here

The much-touted attempt to clean the Yamuna's 22-km stretch through the Capital and turn it into another Thames has come a cropper, after sinking almost Rs 100 crore per km in what passes as a river. In a startling revelation, the Supreme Court-appointed committee revealed on Thursday that nearly Rs 1,800 crore has been spent on cleaning the Yamuna but its water continues to be as dirty as ever. This statement by advocate A D N Rao, convenor of the committee, made a Bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justices C K Thakker and R V Raveendran take serious note of the affairs concerning the Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) to clean the river on the lines of the Thames in the UK.
