Madhya Pradesh State Minor Forest Produce Cooperative Federation earned a net profit of Rs 104 crore from tendu leaf (diospyros melonoxylon) trade previous year.
Federation's Chairman Vishwas Sarang told reporters here today that families of 31 lakh tendu leaves pluckers will be provided Rs 62 crore as cash incentive before Deepawali.
Pointing out that the Federation had clocked a profit of mere Rs 12.24 crore in 2003, Mr Sarang attributed growth in revenue to fetching of increased rates mainly because of qualitative collection of tendu leaves.
Under the new tendu leaf policy, wages of tendu leaf pluckers had been increased from Rs 400 to Rs 650 per standard bag.
He said efforts were being made to make lac and 'kullu' gum trade profitable. An action plan to enhance trade of ayurvedic medicines will be chalked out and implemented shortly.
