Almost 81 per cent households in Haryana are still awaiting regular water connection. Though about five lakh public taps supply drinking water to a large chunk of the population in the state, this has routinely resulted in about 70 per cent of water being wasted. With water supply connections being provided to only seven lakh households, the state government has announced a Rs 200-crore scheme to increase the number of connections in both rural and urban areas.
