Rs 25 cr to Kodagu under MGNREGS

A total of Rs 3 crore will be with ZP to carry out various works under the scheme A sum of Rs 2.5 crore has been released to Kodagu district for 2010-11 under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. With this, Zilla Panchayat has a total of Rs 3 crore (Rs 50 lakh pending from last year) under the scheme to carry out various works. A sum of Rs 8 lakh has been utilised under the scheme this year. Last year, a sum of Rs 13 crore was utilised under the scheme in the district. During the period, it has been decided to construct retaining wall, trenches for elephants on priority basis. At the same time, construction of check dam, de-silting works will also be given importance. Taluk Panchayat EO, Assistant Executive Engineers and other implementing authorities have been directed to undertake atleast two works on priority basis. Measures will be taken to release the funds as per the demand from the Taluk EOs, said an official at Zilla Panchayat. At present, the ID cards of labourers are being verified. The process will be completed soon, he added. 33 per cent of the beneficiaries photos have been uploaded to MIS. GP secretaries have been directed to complete the process of uploading the photos of the benefiaciaries by June 11.
