With a view to completing the irrigation schemes in Krishna, Cauvery and Godavari basins, the government has allocated Rs 3394.41 crore this year...
Around 73,000 hectare are proposed to be brought under irrigation. For full usage of water under large and medium projects, the water users' associations will be formed.
In the budget presented on Thursday, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has stated that a law for regulating the use of ground water will be formulated and implemented throughout the State. A special authority will be set up for improving expertise on water usage, resource management and policy formulation. The CM has also promised to extend the Jala Samvardhane Yojane to all tanks in a phased manner.
He also proposes to follow an uniform pattern for the revival and restoration of all irrigation tanks. Moreover, on an experimental basis a scheme for filling up small tanks from large irrigation projects would also be launched.
Work on the Kalsa-Banduri Canal project for supply of drinking water to Hubli-Dharwad would be speeded up.
Irrigation and drinking water facilities would be provided through the Upper Bhadra Project to the drought-prone districts of Chitradurga, Tumkur and Chikkaballapur. The CM has provided Rs 50 crore for providing drinking water to the Kolar district through the Yergol drinking water scheme.
