ITANAGAR: The Centre has granted an amount of Rs 40 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY) to boost production in agriculture and allied sectors of the State. Secretary Agriculture Hage Kojeen disclosed that after a threadbare discussion with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and top ranking ministry officials by a team of agriculture and horticulture department officers led by Agriculture Minister Setong Sena, the ministry approved of the amount.
Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh was declared ineligible to get RKVY fund, pending with the Planning Commission (PC), and this hurdle was overcome after prolonged persuasion. He said the funds would be divided among the agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, sericulture, animal husbandry and diary development departments for timely execution of projects and submission of utilisation certificates to get more funds. With the centre giving priority and containing the impact of climate change, particularly in the Himalayan region, the RKVY would go a long way in achieving the goal of attaining minimum 4 per cent annual growth. However, all the allied departments should be under a single command for strict monitoring for effective implementation and proper utilisation of funds, he added.
