Forests and Environment Minister R Vaithilingam announced that the Tamil Nadu state government would launch a Rs 779 crore afforestation project covering 2,50,000 hectares in five years from 2003-04. The project called 'Tamil Nadu Natural Resources Management Project' would be implemented in 1,000 villages under the Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project-II.
