Rs.14.59 cr PHE works under progress in Khour: Speaker

JAMMU, Sep 22: Speaker Legislative Assembly Tara Chand monday convened a meeting of officers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control to review the progress made by them in completion of various ongoing development works in Khour block. Among others, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, V. K. Abrol, Ex.Ens. of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control departments were present in the meeting. In the meeting, the Chief Engineer, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control informed the Speaker that the Ministry of Water Resources has sanctioned Rs. 14.5 crore under minor irrigation schemes, out of which Rs. 6 crore have already been spent to supplement the irrigation facilities available at Khour block. He said that after completion of the schemes, there would be no irrigation water scarcity of irrigation water in the area. In flood sector, it was maintained that the construction of protection bunds along the critical flood prone areas of river Chenab at a cost of Rs. 5 crore was going on at a fast pace and would be completed by March 2009. He apprised the Speaker that the central government has also sanctioned Rs. 20 crore for the safety of land and property of the people who are under constant threat due to recurring floods in river Chenab and Lohaki nallah. He informed that Rs. 5 crore works of erecting crates and spurs are under progress. Under modernization scheme of New Paratp canal, he informed that the Central has sanctioned Rs. 26 crore, out of which Rs. 5 crore have already been spent. Besides, it is proposed to spend Rs. 4.50 crore by March 2009 for the repair and renovation of canal. Regarding construction of small nallahs, he apprised that Rs. 10 lakh have been spent for erecting protection bunds. In PHE sector, it was informed that the construction of 17 tube wells and 5 dug wells are under progress at a cost of Rs. 14.59 crore in Khour block out of which 12 tube wells would be commissioned by March 2009. After completion of tube wells, 24 villages would be benefited. Addressing the officers, the Speaker directed the officers to complete the ongoing development works within stipulated time frame for the benefit of general masses. He asked the officers to use quality material on various works so as to create durable assets.
