TANGEDCO to implement scheme in Aranthangi, Pudukottai Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has got a sanction of Rs.26.96 crore for implementing various measures to improve transmission and distribution of power in the municipal towns of Aranthangi and Pudukottai in the district. Sanctioned under the Centrally-sponsored ‘Restructured accelerated power development and reforms programme’ (R-APDRP), the programme aims at ensuring quality power and also checking power loss. While Rs.9.48 crore has been sanctioned for Aranthangi town, the balance Rs.17.48 crore would go to Pudukottai. Aranthangi schemes In Aranthangi, a sub-station of 33/11 kv capacity, would be constructed at an estimate of Rs.2.49 crore. The balance Rs.6.99 crore would be spent for improvement of technical transmission and distribution such as strengthening of lines, providing high voltage distribution system, adopting load balancing techniques and setting up capacitor banks in distribution transformers, an official source told The Hindu here on Sunday. Similar technical programmes would be executed in Pudukottai municipal town for which, a sum of Rs.17.48 crore has been sanctioned. A special programme to evaluate the power loss in transmission would be implemented. The quantum of energy at the entrance and exit feeders would be measured for calculating the power utilised. Through electricity bills, the exact consumption of energy would be ascertained. “The power theft or transmission loss would be arrived at based on data at the feeders and the actual quantum of consumption,” the source said. Assessment of power loss would facilitate TANGEDCO in a big way in checking power theft and other energy saving techniques. New transformers This apart, TANGEDCO has identified 40 sites in Aranthangi, Alangudi and Gandarvakottai where new transformers would be set up. “Excess usage of power by agricultural pump sets above the sanctioned capacity in these villages often results in transformers developing technical snags,” the source said adding that the water table had depleted far below 300 feet in several villages. These additional transformers, to be set up at a cost of about Rs.3 lakh each, would be taken up as and when the materials are available. Work on the sub-station at Aranthangi had already been taken up while the programme in Pudukottai town would be taken up shortly, source added.
