A proposal to allocate Rs.500 crores from the State's Plan funds as "untied" grants to panchayat raj institutions will be made to the Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna, who also holds the Finance portfolio, Mr. M.Y. Ghorpade, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, has said. If accepted, the grants will allow gram panchayats to identify schemes important to them and access funds for the micro projects.
