Rs.87.75 lakh for solid waste management scheme

Nagercoil: The Government has allotted Rs.87.75 lakh for the implementation of solid waste management programme at Kanyakumari, said environmentalist Vivekanandan, attached to directorate of town panchayats. Presiding over a training programme held at the Collectorate recently, he said that works were going on in full swing at Kanyakumari and they would be completed at the earliest. Under this scheme, an additional one mini lorry and one tractor would be distributed to Kanyakumari town panchayat. Necessary steps would be taken to set up mini buckets in all hotels, commercial establishments and marriage halls to make the environment free from any kind of pollution. Pamphlets in connection with creating an awareness of the importance on implementing solid waste management had already been distributed to school and college students.
