Enquiry and complaint are two chronic problems which plague divisional and subdivisional offices of the Assam State Electricity Board all over the State. Annoyed by frequent ringing of the telephone, most instruments in the complaint rooms of the ASEB offices remain uncradled. This is done just to avoid complaints. But after implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, ASEB's ploy to avoid complaints suffered a serious setback. They are compelled, it seems, to tread on the right track. They no longer try to remain inaccessible to the public; rather they are informing the public at what phone number (s) they are available. In Dhubri district, two telephone numbers of Dhubri electrical division/sub-divisions are made available to the public, according to the press note released by the DIPRO, here. These are 5 electrical sub-divisions in the north bank of the district. They are Dhubri, Gauripur, Golokganj, Agomoni and Bilasipara. The phone numbers of the office, control room, complaint booth, SDO and other offices in respect of all the 5 subdivisions are mentioned in the press note. Interested persons may collect these numbers from the DIPRO's office here. TV sets distributed: Distribution of television and DTH sets to different public organisations started in Dhubri district on July 1. These TV and DTH sets are being provided by the Government of Assam in free of cost to public organisations with a view to provide information about development schemes and other information to the people at their doorsteps. According to sources, 700 TV sets will be distributed in Dhubri district @ 100 sets per each of the 7 Assembly segments of the district. Distribution of TV sets in Golokganj and South Salmara LACs has already been completed, says a press note issued by the DIPRO of Dhubri. The SDOs (C) of Bilasipara subdivision and South Salmara Mankachar subdivision were entrusted with the charge of distribution of TV sets for Bilasipara East and Bilasipara West by SDO (C) Bilasipara and for Mankachar by SDO (C), Hatsingimari. At Dhubri sadar, distribution took place at the auditorium of the District library for Dhubri and Gauripur LACs. The distribution was formally inaugurated by Mahibul Haque, MLA, Gauripur LAC who stated in his short speech that these sets are mainly given to youth clubs, mahila societies and educational institutions of rural areas. He hoped that these would help rural youths and students with information on developmental programmes. The distribution ceremony was attended by Rashul Haque, MLA, Dhubri, Jatindra Lakhar, DC, Khagen Medhi, DIPRO and several local dignitaries. The distribution of TV sets was done through the district information and public relation department of Dhubri.
