Rural connectivity top priority: Atal

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Friday emphasised on four-pronged strategy for rural development -- physical and electronic connectivity, electricity, market access and electronic services like telecom and Internet. Inaugurating a 3-day seminar on rural industrialisation, He said that his Government had accorded top priority to this sector, especially rural connectivity. He cited the ongoing road projects. The golden quadrilateral which will connect the four corners of India was Mr Vajpayee's pet project. The Government was in the process of linking metro cities through golden quadrilateral, the Prime minister said, adding that good roads could save fuel worth up to Rs 8,000 crore and the money so saved could be spent for the growth of rural sector.
