Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon has taken steps to provide road reforms in four Pradeshiya Sabha areas in the Anuradhapura District. Rural roads which are in a bad condition in the Pradeshiya Saba areas of Medavachchiya, Kahatagasdigiliya, Talawa and Nochchiyagama are to be underground fast reconstruction. These rural roads are reconstructed by the World Bank Funded Local Government Infrastructure Development Project. The Minister mentioned that the Project is to provide a sum of Rs. 29 million for the construction of a sewerage in Hingurakgoda Pradeshiya Saba area of the Polonnaruwa District and a gully bowser valued at Rs. 3 million in addition to the rural roads reconstruction. Action has been taken to provide further Rs. 17 million to the Kahatagasdigiliya Pradeshiya Saba for the construction of a new library building. The Minister mentioned that action will also be taken to grant funds to reconstruct rural roads in the Pradeshiya Saba areas of Thamankaduwa, Hingurakgoda and Elahara in Polonnaruwa District under the rural access rods reconstruction. The Minister says that a sum amounting to Rs. 6,500 million has been allocated by the ADB for the 10 year programme which is to be implemented with the aim of improving and expanding water supply, urban roads, urban drainage and sewage, solid waste management and small-scale community infrastructure in 68 local authority areas.
