Prof N.V.C. Menon, member of the National Disaster Management Authority, has stressed the need for conducting structural safety audits of buildings to help mitigate loss to life and property during disasters. Presiding over a conference on disaster management, jointly organised by the Department of Revenue and National Disaster Management Authority here yesterday, he said lifeline structures like hospitals should be strengthened and ready information be provided to the public. Directories containing information about specialists and blood banks should be compiled for the purpose.
