SAIL owes J&K over Rs 45 lakh for rent of land acquired in Pampore

SRINAGAR, Sep 28: Steel Authority of India Limited, whose plant was recently inaugurated by the governor N N Vohra and other top ministers from the centre at Lassipora- Pulwama on Monday still fails to pay the rent of land occupied by it in other parts of the Valley. SAIL continues to occupy 23 Kanals of land in the
Pampore Industrial Area despite the expiry of the lease.
Twenty kanals of land have been occupied by the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) since the expiry of its first lease period, from 25.2.1996 to 31.3.2005. The land lies within the limits of the Municipal Committee, Pampore and despite many letters by the Chief Engineer/ Director, Stores Procurement Department, Jammu
and Tehsildar Pampore no action in this respect has been taken, so far.
With reference to fixation of premium and rent for SAIL stock yard, Pampore pertaining to Stores Procurement Department, Pampore Kashmir, the letter bearing No: DSP/3306-13 dated 14.09.2006 has been issued by the Chief Engineer/Director Stores Procurement Department, Jammu wherein it has been asked to revise rate of premium and rent tariff as per the market value of land/ structure occupied by M/S Steel Authority of India Limited at Pampore. The letter clearly mentions that the rates are to be worked out from the date of expiry of the first lease period; 25.2.1996 to 31.3.2005 and further.
The letter described the matter as urgent in nature requiring immediate disposal. It further provided the clue about various letters that preceded this one with reference to the subject concerned. The contents of the letter read as:
