With the onset of monsoons, one of the country's finest sal forests in Madhya Pradesh face serious threat of a fresh onslaught of sal borer pest that has already affected about 31 lakh sal trees worth around Rs 1200 crores in M P last year. Madhya pradesh, the second largest state under sal forests, which constitutes 25 per cent of the total sal forests of the country, had witnessed lakhs of costly wood being devoured by the beetle that had attained alarming proportions last year in the dense sal forests sprawling across Mandla, Balaghat, Shahdol, Rajnandagaon, Bilaspur and Sarguja districts of the State.
