Salakati power project on schedule: Shinde

The construction of the coal-based 750mw Thermal Power Project at Salakati in Kokrajhar district at the site of the existing non-operational Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station (BTPS) of NTPC is progressing as per schedule. Replying to a question raised by Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma recently about the status and progress of the power plant at Salakati, Minister of Power Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the transfer agreement has been executed between the NTPC, Government of Asom and Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (APGCL) for transfer of the existing infrastructure of the BTPS plant to NTPC. Shinde said all necessary key inputs and clearances including environment and forests have been obtained for the project and site specific studies have been completed. He also said preparation for commencement of main plant activities has started. The supply contract of the main plant equipment has been awarded to BHEL he said, adding, that the work on the project has already commenced. The Power Minister said the investment for the plant is estimated at Rs 4,375 crore and an amount of Rs 86.85 lakh has already been incurred for the construction work.
