Ahmedabad: Those wanting to buy land along the Sabarmati riverfront will have to wait for another couple of months. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is in no mood to sell the plots on the western side of the river. AMC is in the process of preparing urban and land use plans along with creating infrastructure facilities like laying down drainage, greening area before putting it on sale.
Officials said the stretch from Gandhi Bridge to Nehru Bridge and Ellisbridge on the western side of the river was ready and for sale. But, the corporation wanted to get a good price and hence it had decided to green the area and have infrastructure in place.
According to officials, the land use allocation for reclaimed land was determined on the basis of existing land uses, location, and configuration of reclaimed land, potential for development, structure of road network and transport pattern.
Also, major proposals regarding land include creating a six-land road on the east side of the river and fourland one on the west side. Nearly 42.8 hectares of parks and gardens have been envisaged along the river edge for recreational needs. These include developing nine gardens and parks.
Also, commercial areas are planned on 22.15-hectare land both on east and west banks and residential areas are planned on 12.47 hectares of the land on the river front.
Officials said there is also a proposal for rehabilitation nearly 4,400 households of the urban poor living on the riverbed that will be affected. The poor will be accommodated partly on newly-constructed 24 sqm dwelling units on the allocated land of 15 hectares at separate locations.
Municipal commissioner IP Gautam said the actual sale for commercial and residential will be conducted any time after monsoon.
