The problem of sandalwood smuggling to Pondicherry from Tiruvannamalai, Padavedu near Vellore, Polur, Chengam and Alangayam is on the rise. According to Forest department sources, the problem has increased in the past one year as three sandalwood oil factories have started functioning in the neighbouring Union Territory.
