Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Making studying joyful

While the State and the Central Governments are giving special thrust on quality of education, the Goa Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (GSSA) is also playing its part in improving the quality of education at the primary school level.According to the GSSA Director Dr P R Nadkarni, the earlier pattern was just question and answer based and the Abhiyan is now trying to make studying more joyful. He said that apart from the academics, the new system also lays more emphasis on the extra-curricular activities like sports, music art etc. "Primary level education is the foundation of a student's future and improving the quality at that level will be of immense help not only for the student but so also for the nation,' Dr Nadkarni who has served as the chairman of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher secondary education said. Sports is one thing that makes a anyone accept failures and likewise the other things like art and music also have different advantages, he said. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a flagship programme of the Government of India that was launched in 2001-02 in all States. The objective of SSA is to bring all children between the ages of 6 to 14 years (1st grade to 8th grade) and ensure that children successfully complete 8 years of elementary education. In the quality improvement programme, the GSSA provides training for teachers in which learn about content enrichment, teaching learning material preparation, exhibiting the teaching learning material and so also the use of teaching learning material, he stated.
