Delhi's lungs are shrinking and that too, at a phenomenal pace. Cited as the only hope for preserving Delhi's environment, the ridge is depleting at the rate of one per cent per year, according to a report by Vatavaran, an NGO. Encroached areas of the ridge which have been cleared out have been lying idle with no apparent efforts being made at greening the land. According to Dr Iqbal Malik , Director , Vatavaran, as of today, only 60 per cent of encroachments on the ridge have been removed. (supplement)
