There are various reasons behind shortage of power including unmindful consumption of energy. Therefore, it is the crying need of the hour and responsibility of everyone to save power. Most of the sources of power generation are dependent on nature's bounty and it is difficult to guess as to what would happen to these sources in the face of increasing global warming and shortage of water and coal in future. Under such circumstances, an appeal has been made to consumers to use energy savers (CFL) with a view to bringing down monthly consumption and getting rid of hefty electricity bills. According to MP State Electricity Board and its companies, these seven to 18 watt energy savers can play a vital role in the efforts to save power. They also said that a little carefulness on the part of consumers can also lead to saving of 25 to 35 percent daily power consumption. According to experts, a 60-watt bulb consumes 18 units for 10-hour use while a 13-watt CFL consumes only 3.9 units. Thus Rs 56.40 can be saved every month at the rate of Rs four per unit of power. Similarly, a 40-watt electricity bulb consumes 12 units per month on daily use of 10 hours. Against it, CFL of 11 watts capacity consumes only 3.3 units and leads to saving of Rs 34.80 per month. In the same way, 25-watt bulb consumes 7.5 units per month on the daily use of 10 hours as against 2.1 units by a seven-watt CFL. By using the CFL a consumer can save Rs 21.60 per month. The experts are also advising people to use solar cooker in place of electricity heaters and geezers for cooking food and heating water with a view to saving energy. They also say that people working in offices should be as mindful as in their own houses as far as consumption of power is concerned and consume only that much power which is necessary.
